The New Zealand Film Commission
The New Zealand film commission is a National company that provides loans and equity for film makers within New Zealand so they can produce movies and short films. It also organises international film festivals. The Ministry manages the New Zealand Film Commission's relationship with the Crown and administers government funding.
The New Zealand Commission helps Local film makers by giving them distribution grants, and providing them with connections with local distribution companies. They show films at international film festivals so they can possibly attract attention from international distributors who can distribute the films overseas.
These are some things that the NZFC are doing to try and grow the film industry in New Zealand:
- They will be investing $36 million dollars in New Zealand into the film market to support the production distribution of high quality NZ films
- Encouraging international film makers to shoot their big blockbusters in New Zealand and hire New Zealanders to be a part of the production process.
